CBSE Class 10 Second Board Examination 2026 – Phase 2 Registration, LOC, Dates & Full Guide

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the start of registrations for the Class 10 Second Board Examination 2026, marking a significant milestone. For the first time, CBSE will conduct two board exams for Class 10 within the same academic year.

The second examination is set to take place in May 2026, offering students a valuable chance to improve their scores or pass compartment subjects without having to wait another year.

Schools can now upload the List of Candidates (LOC) via the official CBSE portal. To ensure flexibility and convenience, the board has introduced a three-phase submission process for schools and students.

Who can write the CBSE Class 10 Second Board Exam 2026?

Not all students can apply. CBSE has set simple rules based on how students performed in the first board exam.

Students who can apply:

  • Students who passed the first exam can take the second exam to improve marks in up to three subjects (Science, Maths, Social Science, or Languages).
  • Students who got a compartment in the first exam can also appear. They need to submit a new List of Candidates (LOC) for those subjects.
  • Students who passed through subject replacement or got special permission from CBSE (like sports students) are also allowed.

Students who cannot apply:

  • Students who were absent or failed in three or more subjects are not allowed. They fall under the “Essential Repeat” category and must appear again in the main board exam in February 2027.
  • Also, no new student can be added if they were not part of the first exam’s LOC.

What is LOC (List of Candidates)?

LOC is a mandatory registration step handled by schools.

In simple terms:

  • Schools upload student details to CBSE
  • Includes subjects, exam choices, and personal data
  • Without LOC submission, students cannot appear for the exam

Parents should ensure the school completes this process on time.

CBSE Second Board Exam Rules 2026

CBSE has ensured the system is fair and consistent.

Important Rules

  • Syllabus and exam pattern remain same as main exam
  • No changes in curriculum or difficulty level
  • Students can choose different subjects, except Mathematics (as per policy)
  • Exam centres will remain the same (no change requests allowed)
  • Internal assessments and practical marks will be carried forward

This ensures students don’t face confusion or extra burden.
