Every year, thousands of parents in the UAE plan their family routines, holidays, and school supply shopping around the official academic calendar. If your child is studying in a public school, an Indian curriculum school, or a private international institution, it’s important to know the exact school reopening dates for the 2025–2026 academic year.

For families who’ve travelled back home during the summer holidays or are returning from vacation, knowing the start dates in advance can help schedule travel, avoid missing classes, and make sure the child is fully ready when school begins.

This blog gives you a full picture of school reopening dates in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and other emirates, based on the latest official guidelines by the UAE Ministry of Education (MOE), KHDA, and ADEK. MOE Curriculum Schools – Public & Private

Most schools in the UAE, including all public (government-run) schools and private schools that follow the MOE curriculum, will reopen on Monday, 25 August 2025.

This date applies across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, and other emirates. Schools under the MOE must complete a minimum of 182 instructional days in the academic year.

Dubai:

MOE-curriculum private schools in Dubai are regulated by the KHDA (Knowledge and Human Development Authority), which may allow small date changes, but schools must still stick to the approved framework.

Abu Dhabi:

In Abu Dhabi, ADEK (Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge) monitors school calendars for both public and private institutions and follows the national schedule.

Private International Schools – British, American, IB, etc.

Private international schools in the UAE that follow the British, American, or IB curriculum will also begin the academic year on 25 August 2025.

While the calendar generally matches the MOE dates, there can be slight variations based on each school’s internal approval. However, these schools cannot open before the official MOE-approved date.

Whether your child is in a British school in Dubai or an American curriculum school in Abu Dhabi, it’s best to check with the school directly for any slight shifts. KHDA and ADEK ensure these schools maintain the 182-day minimum requirement.

Indian Curriculum Schools – CBSE, ICSE

Schools that follow the Indian curriculum, such as CBSE and ICSE, operate on a different academic cycle from most UAE schools.

  • Academic Year Start: Monday, 7 April 2025
  • Summer Break: 30 June – 24 August 2025
  • School Resumes: Monday, 25 August 2025

This schedule is common across all emirates including Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and others. Indian schools begin early in April and break for summer in July. After the summer break, students return to class on the same date as MOE schools—25 August 2025.

Authorities such as KHDA (Dubai), ADEK (Abu Dhabi), and SPEA (Sharjah) allow Indian schools to follow this model as long as all academic requirements are met.

  • KHDA – Knowledge and Human Development Authority: Supervises private schools in Dubai
  • ADEK – Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge: Regulates schools in Abu Dhabi
