UAE School Reopening 2026: Official Back to School Date, Full Calendar and What Every Parent Needs to Know
Summer is winding down, and parents across the UAE are getting ready for the new academic year. The good news is that the wait is almost over the UAE Ministry of Education has confirmed the exact school reopening date for 2026, along with the full academic calendar, so families can start planning school runs, uniforms, and tuition schedules well in advance.
Whether your child goes to a government school, a private school, or an Indian-curriculum school like CBSE or ICSE, this guide covers everything you need to know the reopening date, term breaks, public holidays, and even a new admission rule that could affect younger kids. NRI families balancing school in the UAE alongside tuition back home will find that covered too.
UAE schools reopen on Monday, August 31, 2026.
This is the official start date of the 2026-27 academic year as confirmed by the UAE Ministry of Education (MOE). The MOE has fixed this calendar for the next three academic years 2026-27, 2027-28, and 2028-29, giving families much more clarity for long-term planning.
| Summer break ends | August 30, 2026 |
| Schools reopen (first day) | August 31, 2026 (Monday) |
| Academic year ends | June 2027 |
| Total summer break | Approximately 59 days (about 8 weeks) |
Indian-curriculum schools (CBSE, ICSE, and similar boards) have traditionally run an April-to-March academic year with their own separate summer break, rather than following the MoE's August-start calendar. A transition toward the unified calendar for Indian-curriculum schools is underway from April 2026, so return dates for this school year may vary by institution.
What this means for you practically:
If your children attend an Indian-curriculum school, confirm the exact reopening date directly with the school rather than assuming 31 August applies.
Here is the complete school year at a glance all the dates you need to save right now:

The 2026-27 UAE school year has three main break periods after the summer:
This is a one-week break in the middle of the first semester.
The longest festive break of the school year.
A one-week break between the second and third terms.
These are the main public holidays expected during the 2026-27 academic year. Note that dates for moon-sighting festivals are subject to official confirmation:

If your child spent the summer in Kerala and is now returning to the UAE for school, or if they are staying in Kerala while you are in the UAE and they study through online sessions, August 31 is the date to plan around for both school and tuition scheduling.
Many Kerala families in UAE, Dubai, Qatar, and other Gulf countries manage their children's Indian board education through online platforms like Interval Learning, which offers one-on-one online tuition in CBSE, ICSE, and Kerala State Board subjects at timings that work for Gulf time zones.
From the start of the 2026–27 academic year, the official age cut-off date will move from August 31 to December 31 of the admission year. This means children will be eligible to start school if they reach the required age by December 31, rather than needing to have already turned that age by the end of August.
What this means in simple terms:
Previously, if your child's birthday was in September, October, November, or December they had to wait a whole extra year to start school. Now, from 2026-27 onwards, a child who turns three in September, October, November or December can now be admitted to Pre-Kindergarten or Foundation Stage, rather than having to wait an extra year.
This applies to:
If your child is studying in a CBSE, ICSE, IGCSE, or any other board school in the UAE or following the Kerala State Board curriculum from home while you are in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, or anywhere else in the Gulf, Interval Learning is right here for you.
